  • Entrance to the "Mud Flood" area in Sidoarjo; (now contained by a massive earthen dike).
  • The "Mud Flood" area in Sidoarjo; accidental eruption while drilling for natural gas resulted in a large area of the city being covered in boiling hot mud.
  • The "Mud Flood" area in Sidoarjo; where the remnants of buildings buried by the muddy water can still be seen.
  • The Lava Vew Lodge on the crater rim of the Tenggerese caldera, overlooking Mt Bromo.
  • Mt Batok at dusk, as seen from the ridge at the Lava View Lodge. Vehicle headlights can be seen traverseiing the "Sand Sea" below.
  • Flip attempts a freestyle jump from the ridge at the Lava View Lodge.
  • Harmawan managing our finances, (some of our money was TOO old!), at the dinner table in the Lava View Lodge.
  • Festive decorations line the streets in the defacto capital of the Tenggerese in Ngadisari.
  • Free spirited decorations celebrate the coming of Yadnya Kasada.
  • Green onions growing feverishly like "pod people' in the bright full moonlight on the eve of Yadnya Kasada.
  • The full moon on the eve of the Tenggerese fetival of Yadnya Kasada.
  • Yadnya Kasada decorations elcipse the moon.
  • A view to Mt Semeru (Java's highest peak), in the distance with Mt Batok in the foreground, just before sunrise.
  • The lights of Cemoro Lawamg amd the Lava View Lodge on the ridge of the Tenggerese caldera, far below our sunrise viewing point.
  • Swiftly approaching sunrise with the curiously dessicated trees of the hillside in the foreground; (has there been recent volcanic activity to cause this lack of foliage?)
  • Sunise arrives at the three peaks of Batok, Bromo and Semeru.
  • Harmawan gives Flip the thumbs up after our successful sunrise encounter!
  • Jac, Flip, Sal, Sam, Mat at the sunrise viewing point.
  • Approaching the "Safe Fence" however, was perfectly acceptable!
  • Our jeep driver for our journeys accros the great "Sand Sea" and up and down the mountain to the viewing point.
